Why did you apply to be on The Traitors?

I watched the first series and I just loved how different it was. It’s exciting and there’s missions too. Although there’s teamwork involved, there’s also the sneakiness behind it all. I don’t feel like I’ve ever watched something as unique as this show. It had you gripped the whole time, so I just loved it. I thought it was such a great idea.

What did you think of the first series?

I think it took me a couple of episodes to get into it, just because once you know the people you feel way more attached. You can’t believe they're blaming that person when they’re so clearly a Faithful. It’s so interesting to watch it all unravel and how quickly people start to not trust anyone in the game.

Was there anyone’s game plan you admired?

I would love to say Wilfred because I think he was amazing. How many people could do that? He was so good. But I feel like it does take a certain type of person to be able to be that sneaky. Meryl was great as well, she kind of stayed out of it but agreed with people when necessary. She was always involved in a way but never the person who came up with the ideas, I thought she had a good game plan.

What do you think you'll bring to the game?

I think maybe a bit more excitement around it all, I’m super excitable anyway and looking forward to the missions and stuff. I love an adventure, so I feel like I can really throw myself into those. Hopefully, just a bit more fun as well with the game, obviously it can be so serious at times.

Do you have a game plan?

I want to make as many friends as possible. The more friends you have in there, the better. As I also work as a Healthcare Assistant, you do get close to people because you’re there for them and looking after them, but you have to be careful not to get too emotionally attached. I’m quite good at building that relationship but also separating myself in a way which I feel like will be really good in the game. You have to turn on people at some points, and that person could be your friend in there.

Do you think you’ll be good at the missions and what strengths do you think you might bring to them?

Yeah, I definitely think that I’m going to enjoy the Missions. I’d love to push myself as much as possible. I’ve always watched game shows and thought “I could do that” but when you get there, could you actually do it? I think I’m going to be ok with it, but there are going to be fears that come up that I’ve never even thought of before. Half of these things people will never normally do. I’d really love to push myself, and I feel I'll be quite good at the physical challenges. Looking at last year, I'd love to try being buried alive and jumping out of a helicopter. I’d love to try that and see how scared I really am. I have always said that I'd love to do that but when you’re up there I know it’d be really intimidating.

If you are a Traitor, how do you think you'll feel?

I think it’s going to change things for me as I have thought of myself as more of a Faithful. I think you’ve just got to get into the game, get into the mindset that you’re still a Faithful until the evenings and when you meet up at night. I think your mindset, whether you get tapped on the shoulder or not, is to be a Faithful in the daytime. You’ve got to convince yourself that that is who you are, so that you can then convince other people.

Would you say you’ve got a good poker face?

I think I probably do, I'm quite innocent looking. I feel like my age, and the fact that I can come across quite innocent, will be really good for me and people will think I wouldn’t be able to be a Traitor. I’d say I’m quite good at deflecting the attention as well, so if it was on me I could point it in another direction.

If you are a Traitor, how far are you prepared to go to win the game?

I think it’s hard to say now because you’re not in it, but as soon as you get in there and you see the prize money you think “You know what... I'm winning.”

If you're a Faithful, what do you think your game plan would be?

I think just deflecting the attention from you to someone else. As much as you want to find the Traitors, someone going home is one less person to worry about as well. You’ve got to think that as long as your name is not being brought up at the Round Table, then that’s a good thing. You obviously want to get the Traitors out because then they can’t murder you at night, but with another Faithful gone you’re a step closer to the end. You’ve kind of got to get the numbers down as best as possible and try your best for a Traitor.

How good are you at spotting a liar?

My brother was quite naughty growing up, so I’ve always been able to pick up on when he’s lying and then we go upstairs and I’d be like “You just told Mum and Dad a lie, didn’t you?” and he’d always say yes. Growing up he misbehaved a little bit in school and wouldn’t tell my parents, but I always knew. So, I feel like I can always recognise the signs.

If you are a Faithful, what qualities do you think you're going to need to make it through to the final?

I think it is majorly the friendships. People can say “I’m not going to make friends in there” but you will do, that’s who you’re around for potentially three weeks, those familiar faces. You kind of have to have a little bit of trust in people to be able to get through it. I think the friendships will be a major thing. I also think doing well in the missions because that will mean the Traitors want to keep you in, so that helps too.

If you win the prize money, what do you think you'll spend it on?

I’d love to go travelling in the future, so I'd definitely feel more relaxed about that if I won because at my age, you kind of have to choose between getting your own place, moving out, travelling but then having nothing to come back to. It would be so nice to have that and go and live my dream of travelling and come back and still be secure enough to put a deposit down on a house, that would be amazing.

About

In this nail-biting psychological reality competition, Claudia Winkleman greets 22 strangers as they arrive at a beautiful castle in the Scottish Highlands to play the ultimate game of detection, backstabbing and trust, in the hope of winning up to £120,000.

But hidden amongst them are the Traitors whose job is to secretly murder a player every night, without getting caught.

It’s up to the others, the Faithfuls, to try to detect who the traitors are, and banish them from the game, before they become their next victim.

For the lucky ones who survive to the end, they have the chance of winning that life-changing cash. But if a Traitor remains undetected, they’ll steal all the money.

The Traitors returns on Wednesday 3 January from 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer and episodes 2 and 3 will be available on iPlayer immediately after. The show will air on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.
