Ed Sheeran gives One Direction love songs for new album

Ed Sheeran says most of the tracks he gave to One Direction for their next album are love songs.

The singer-songwriter helped the British boyband with a few songs for their debut album 'Up All Night' and it seems they were so impressed that they asked for more.

Sheeran told MTV about the process behind giving One Direction his songs, adding that the tracks were ones he penned when he was 17. He said:

"I wrote the three tracks that I gave [them]...when I was 17 and they were on my hard drive for a long time. And then I gave them one song for their last album and they came back and said, 'Do you have any more?' and I said, 'Here's a whole load. Take your pick'."

Sheeran added that most of the songs he wrote aged 17 were love songs, so people should expect tracks of that ilk from him on One Direction's new record. He added:

"17-year-old Ed just wrote a lot of love songs, so expect to hear a lot of love songs on their album, I guess. I had a wicked girlfriend at 17...She was great. Actually [my] album is pretty much about her. So she spawned off a lot of songs."
