Ellie Goulding says it's "mad" that she is beating Gaga in charts

Ellie Goulding has revealed her surprise at beating Lady Gaga in the UK singles chart.

Both acts released new singles recently, but it was the US star's comeback track 'Applause' that came with the most gusto and hype.

However, Goulding's 'Burn' reigned supreme in the midweek chart update, meaning that she could land the No.1 accolade when the full list is revealed on Sunday (August 18). Speaking to the Metro about the news, the Brit said:

"It feels quite funny because I remember there was a similar thing when 'Lights', my album, was up against Gaga's and it somehow got to No.1 above her album, so it feels like that again. It's her big comeback single and she hasn't released anything in a while. Hopefully mine will stay at the top. It's put up a really good fight.

Goulding added: "It's mad. I don't put myself on as high a level as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. I've still got a long way to go. I've toured with Katy and I met Lady Gaga when I won the Brit Award but they've both been an inspiration to me."
