McFly's Poynter is in rehab for stress

It was revealed over the weekend that McFly's Dougie Poynter had checked into rehab, and now fellow bandmate Tom Fletcher has explained the decision was made purely to deal with stress and nothing else.

Speaking exclusively to BBC Radio 1's Newsbeat today, March 7, Fletcher said that the choice to enter rehab was the best way to recover:

"Obviously our jobs can be quite stressful at times anyway and then when you combine that with personal issues like a break-up, it can just make it 10 times harder."

"Being in the public eye, he's obviously been a bit down and stressed and he just needed time to recover and get some help with that."

Poynter split up with his girlfriend, Frankie Sandford from The Saturdays, back in November of last year and the band's busy schedule hasn't allowed him time to really deal with it:

"He's in good spirits. He's been looking forward to touring. That's what he absolutely loves, performing live."

"He's really looking forward to just getting out and obviously wanted to be on top form for all the fans on tour. I think that's what he's itching to do now."

McFly rescheduled a few of their forthcoming tour dates and will begin the shows on March 18 in Sheffield. Watch the boys perform their new single, 'The Truth', live on this morning's Daybreak here:
