One Direction have thanked their fans after winning big at this year's MTV EMAs.

The British pop group picked up two gongs at the Frankfurt ceremony last night (November 11) - Best New Act and Best Fans - as well as the Best UK and Ireland award.

The group took to Twitter soon after to thank their fans for voting, with Niall Horan tweeting:

"Wow I can't believe it! We won 2 awards at the EMA ! Thank you soo much for voting for us! We are buzzing."

Bandmate Liam Payne said: "Thank you to everyone who voted for us at the EMAs! You are the best fans everrrr! Thank you for everything you guys do . Love you allllll."

Harry Styles meanwhile chipped in: "Thank you to our Incredible fans!! We won 'Best New' and 'Biggest Fans' at the EMAs, the last one speaks for itself.. Thank you so much .xx."

Other winners on the night included Taylor Swift and Canadian star Justin Bieber, who both won three awards each.
