One Direction on course for this week's UK No.1 single

One Direction look set to score this week's No.1 single after landing at the top spot in today's (February 20) midweek chart update.

The popular British band - comprising Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne - have recorded a version of Blondie's hit 'One Way Or Another' to raise funds for Comic Relief.

The record is set to reach the top spot this weekend after the official UK singles chart released updated figures today.

Chief executive of Comic Relief Kevin Cahill revealed the track is the first time a Red Nose Day single has achieved worldwide success. He said:

"We couldn't have asked for a better band to record the official Red Nose Day single in our 25th year. It's an absolute coup and the first time ever we have a massive global-selling single for Comic Relief."

He continued: "Their genuine commitment to the work we fund is touching and I know that their contribution will raise a huge amount to make a real difference."

Macklemore's 'Thrift Shop' is a non-mover at No. 2 after seven weeks in the chart, while Baauer's 'Harlem Shake' has stayed at No. 3.

Last week's No. 1 Avicii vs Nicky Romero's 'I Could Be The One' has slipped three places down to No. 4 in this week's chart update.

Bruno Mars' 'When I Was You Man' is up two places to No. 5, while Rihanna's 'Stay' featuring Mikky Ekko has dropped two places to No. 6.
