One Direction stadium tour sales break records

One Direction's 2014 stadium tour has broken ticket records.

As previously reported, the British boyband recently announced plans to tour the UK and Ireland next year as part of their Where We Are world tour.

Tickets went on sale on Saturday (May 25) and they flew out the door - prompting the 'Kiss You' stars to add three more dates.

Ticketmaster Ireland have confirmed that their two initial gigs at Dublin's Croke Park broke sales records, with all tickets sold out in two hours.

DF Concerts' Geoff Ellis meanwhile revealed that the band's Murrayfield Stadium gig in Edinburgh also sold out in record time. He told the Daily Record:

"Murrayfield sold out in 90 minutes, a new record for a concert and shows how hot a One Direction ticket is. It's sad that people are trying to sell them for more than £1000 but I doubt they'll get what they're looking for."

The Scottish promoter continued: "Although it's a sell-out, fans shouldn't give up hope. A number of credit card purchases are often rejected and tickets go back on the market. Suspicious multiple purchases are also cancelled because we try to make sure tickets don’t end up in the hands of touts. Fans should also keep in mind that more tickets are likely to be released once licensing plans are finalised and we know how big the stage will be."
