One Direction join Philippines typhoon appeal

One Direction have lent their weight to a Philippines typhoon fundraising appeal.

Typhoon Haiyan recently caused scenes of devastation as it hit the country, with thousands dead.

One Direction have now given their support to the DEC Telethon, which is taking place today (November 18) at London's BT Tower.

It will see celebrities answer telephone calls from the public as Britain comes together to raise much needed funds for the Philippines.

The 'Kiss You' lads will helping by encouraging fans on Twitter to donate to the appeal.

Liam Payne said in a statement: "The pictures I have seen of little children in between the ruins made my heart break. All of us in the band are shocked by how many people need help, so we're asking the public to continue to be as generous as they possibly can."

Other celebrities due to take part in the telethon include Alan Rickman and Jamie Oliver.

The public can pledge by calling 0370 6060610 between 4pm and 7pm today.
