Stars show support for Sam Smith ahead of surgery

Vocal sensation Sam Smith is undergoing an operation on his throat today (May 14) and his fellow music superstars have sent him well-wishes ahead of the surgery.

The 'Lay Me Down' hitmaker recently suffered a vocal cord haemorrhage and was forced to axe a series of dates that were scheduled to take place in Australia, and he is now having an operation to fix the issue that will leave him unable to talk for three weeks while he recovers.

Josh Groban shared a message of support with Smith, writing: "@samsmithworld as a fellow singer and fan, wishing you a speedy recovery and pristine pipes for decades to come." Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams added: "Totally get how real/scary voice stuff is. Will be prayin' for you & for the docs. Love that voice."

This afternoon, Smith shared a 'hospital selfie' (shown above left) with his devoted followers and wrote: "Can't sleep. Op tomorrow. Looking through all your beautiful messages. Makes me emotional to know I have so many people wishing me well. I hope every single one of you know how thankful I am. I love you all sincerely."
