Sam Smith shares 'bad news' about surgery

'Stay With Me' hitmaker Sam Smith recently suffered a vocal cord haemorrhage and was forced to axe a series of dates that were scheduled to take place in Australia.

Initially, Smith was advised to take time off and allow himself and his voice to recover, but he has now revealed that he needs to have an operation because his condition is more serious than originally thought.

The vocal sensation took to his official Twitter page earlier today (May 7) and explained that rest alone won't fix the issue so he now has to undergo surgery: "When words fail, let music speak. Bad news. I have my operation booked for next week, so getting really nervous."

Smith added: But by doing this in 8 weeks time I'm gonna be able to sing like never before so it's worth it. I am so sorry to all. Dreading the next month thou, I can't speak for THREE WEEKS after the op."
