Laurel Smith began releasing singles, “Mona Lisa”, “Afterthought” and her first E.P “Mortals” through AWAL during 2019.

"Candy" was inspired by a character, Halley, and her daughter in the movie "The Florida Project”. Laurel say's she was moved by their relationship and the things Halley does to provide for her child whilst they're residents of a motel. "Candy" shows the sacrifices and lengths mothers go to for their children and the dream of something better.

“Candy, Candy
Everyday day dreaming of the Hollywood hills
A big white mansion in the Hollywood hills
A chef in the kitchen, no more ready meals
And a beamer out front with the blacked out wheels”
