Though born amidst the sands and sunburnt rock faces of the Sonoran Desert in the Southwestern United States to an amateur harmonica player father and a first-generation Korean mother, Wynnm’s dark notes and honey-throated tones draw from experiences far beyond her landscape, circumstance, and family myths of origin. CD’s like Simon and Garfunkel, Bob Dylan, Moby, The Doors, and Creedence Clearwater Revival spun in the family car on long road trips. She came of age with a love for bass beats and albums by powerful female vocalists like Annie Lennox, Portishead, and Fiona Apple.

Wynnm’s quicksilver sound is an elegant amalgamation of smooth folk and vital bass. Her music emerges from the dusty mirages of Arizona and the private mountains of Idaho and cycles to the electronic beats of her current residency in Amsterdam.

Wynnm presents her new single thefeelingyougetwhenyouwatchthenews. Starting out with a mystifying crackling loop, layers of sound samples and tender acoustic guitar are added one by one creating mesmerizing soundscapes, with Wynnm's angelic vocals and strong message as the cherry on top!

Wynnm about the artwork and the single:

Crouched in the sands of the Sonoran Desert, a few years after her arrival to the United States as an immigrant from South Korea, my kid mother sits learning how to shoot straight. She’s assimilating.

I recognize the potential shock value of my single’s artwork because when I first saw it, I, too, was uncomfortable. I present this image in the hope that it opens up a moment for self-reflection, as a meditation on the idea of “sitting ducks,” as she is actually aiming at fowl-shaped-clay figures. My mother grew up in the household of a U.S. military veteran, and though I do not agree with this display of the BB gun, its presence and shape is a reality for many. I mistrust the jurisdiction that allows this image to exist, but must recognize that this object has immense power in creating fear, in creating gaps of power. What and how are other weapons used against populations? How can we graduate from being “sitting ducks”? How do we reclaim our power of identity? Music has always been an outlet for me to combat some of the injustices I feel have built the world we're in, so this artwork is intended to create a space for criticism of norms and a space for open and raw emotions. I do not intend to perpetuate violence.

thefeelingyougetwhenyouwatchthenews is a synthesis of the helplessness one can feel when the weight of tragic, current events comes stomping through newspapers, flashing across screens, and ravaging the hope of people from their living rooms. Our connection to the power of change feels weaker than ever; our disconnection from the realities of events is palpable. The single describes a mind focused on another: the desire to take action in whatever way we can with all the unique endowments that make us resilient, caring, ourselves. This song is the primordial soup, simple and succulent, it is the reduction to building blocks, the reordering of what we’re living for, and the reformation of our reality. Create a path of connection with an issue so that we live another day to think on those we love, and ask yourself:

“What does it feel like to crawl out from the sea?”

“You have had your mouth shut longer than you’d like. How can you stand it?”
And why should you.
