Lupe Fiasco announces new album release date

American-born rapper, Lupe Fiasco, has revealed the release date for his new album.

‘Lasers’, the follow up to 2007’s ‘The Cool’, will be released on March 8 2011, through Atlantic Records.

Announcing the news through his Twitter page, Fiasco, whose real name is Wasulu Muhammad Jaco, tweeted, “Victory!” and linked the message through to a photograph of him with Atlantic executive Julie Greenwald.

The album, which was reportedly completed two-and-a-half years ago, has faced heavy delays from Atlantic and had prompted a petition with over 30,000 signatures demanding its release.

A rally was scheduled for Friday 15 October outside the Atlantic Record offices in New York with Jaco himself confirming attendance. However it is now unclear if it will take place.
