Taylor Swift Offers Music For ‘Heartstopper’ Moment

Fans of Heartstopper were overjoyed to hear Taylor Swift on the season two soundtrack but the story behind the song being used is even lovelier.

Matt Biffa, the music supervisor of Netflix's coming-of-age romantic comedy-drama TV series, has revealed that Swift loved one scene so much that she granted permission for her song "seven" to soundtrack it, and was more than happy not to earn a huge paycheck from the show for using it.

The Grammy Award-winner gave her permission for the track from her 2020 album "folklore" to be used in an emotional scene which involves a passionate kiss in the season two finale starring same-sex couple Tara (Corinna Brown) and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell).

Biffa says the show didn't have a massive budget to pay the 33-year-old singer-songwriter huge royalties and that Swift was just happy to help them out with the "beautiful" moment.

When one Twitter user wrote: "so you mean THIS heartstopper scene with 'seven' by taylor swift in the background that highlights sapphic love and absolute queer joy, she was willing to get less money because she thought it was beautiful and her song would be perfect for it???? (sic)"

Biff responded: "No, she just thought the scene was beautiful and we were then able to make it work."

He also wrote: "Sometimes art is more important than $$$."

Heartstopper primarily tells the story of Charlie Spring (Joe Locke), a gay schoolboy who falls in love with classmate Nick Nelson (Kit Connor), whom he sits next to in his new form. It also explores the lives of their friends Tao Xu (William Gao), Elle Argent (Yasmin Finney), Isaac Henderson (Tobie Donovan), Tara Jones (Corinna Brown) and Darcy Olsson (Kizzy Edgell).

In Season 2, Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship; Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.

Season 2 is now available to stream on Netflix.
