"Slow-motion mutant hiphop... 'MU.ZZ.LE' is an entirely satisfying mini album"- Artrocker *****

"Rich and arresting... He promised a dark journey. We got one” - Clash 8/10

Musician, poet and unmistakable vocalist Gonjasufi (aka Sumach Ecks) has unveiled the lead track from his forthcoming mini-album ‘MU. ZZ. LE’.

The track, a duet with his wife, is indicative of the deeper and more personal nature of ‘MU. ZZ. LE’. As Sumach explains, “(The record is) a way to reflect on my actions. It’s very emotional and dark, the record. It’s been a dark time of my life, probably the darkest, but I’ve been able to manoeuvre through that and turn the darkness into light.”

'MU. ZZ. LE'  (“Cracking” – Guardian Guide) is released on January 23rd and follows his debut album, 2009’s acclaimed ‘A Sufi and A Killer’ (dubbed a “contender for album of the year” by Guardian Guide and “one of my album highlights of 2010” by The Independent’s Larry Ryan) and 2010’s remix project ‘The Caliph’s Tea Party’.

The mini-album will be released digitally and on CD, double 10”– available at leading record stores -and as a limited screenprinted poster (exclusive to Bleep in the UK: http://bit.ly/v7x2aM).

'MU.ZZ.LE', although short in it’s length, is huge on messages. Political, social and spiritual interpretations that define him as an artist. Written on the road, it was an outlet for Gonjasufi to challenge himself. It’s the response to all the adrenaline, aggression and anger he felt travelling the world, it’s a spectrum of his creativity and a testimony of how one man’s passion and determination is often misunderstood as anger. “There’s a duality that exists and to deny it, is the biggest mistake”. The albums downtempo strings, heartbreaking soul, reanimated hip-hop and crackling haunting vocal stylings are stitched as a running thread throughout each song like a patchwork quilt.
