Britney Spears: 'I need to clarify something I said after mishearing a question'

Pop superstar Britney Spears has taken to her official Twitter page in order to clarify a remark she made after mishearing a question she was asked by a journalist this week.

Gossip site TMZ quoted the 'Hold It Against Me' sensation as saying "I think that's great" in response to being asked how she felt about the death of Mickey Mouse Club star Annette Funicello (pictured left), who passed away on Monday (April 8) aged 70.

Spears, who started out her lucrative career as a Mouseketeer with Disney (shown below along with Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera), told her 25.5 million Twitter followers that she didn't hear the question properly so wanted to give the correct response now that she understands:

"Misheard a question I was asked earlier by press while I was out and about. I am DEVASTATED to hear about the passing of Annette Funicello. She was a role model for me during my days as a Mousketeer. #Heartbroken."
