Cheryl sues The X Factor USA for £1.4 million

Cheryl is suing The X Factor USA for £1.4 million ($2.24 million) after being fired from the show last year.

Even though Cheryl was paid £1.1 million ($1.76 million) for the first series, her legal representatives claim that she is entitled to money for a signed second series and a variety of expenses.

These expenses include £62,000 ($99,420) worth of clothes, £1,560 ($2,500) a month for living expenses, and £9,350 ($15,000) a month for living rent in Los Angeles.

The court papers have stated that Cheryl was on a ‘pay or play’ basis, which meant that she was guaranteed to receive the money, even though she only worked for three weeks and did not even appear on the second series of the show.

It is the company Blue Orbit which may have to pay out. Blue Orbit, a small firm, is one of the companies that finance some of the programmes made by Fremantle Media.

Speaking last night at Capital FM’s Jingle Bell Ball at London’s O2 Arena (pictured below), Cheryl said: “It’s got nothing to do with me or Simon — the lawyers can deal with whatever’s going on.”

This lawsuit comes after the recent public reunion of Girls Aloud. Cheryl will be touring with her female bandmates next year, in the wake of celebrating their tenth anniversary together.
