The video for James Billet’s quietly beautiful song, ‘Faith Over Family’ is out - and it’s breathtaking.

Shot on location in the cinematic and evocative landscape of Iceland, the video follows the story told in the song - of a young gay man whose father cannot accept him the way he is, instead choosing “faith over family”.

The video takes on a hazy, dreamlike quality, as if reflecting the transparent paper of an old, worn bible; and matches itself with the near-whisper of Billet’s heartfelt vocal. As the song progresses, the love story between the two men is paralleled amongst the vast expanses of the Icelandic scenery, whilst the father remains inside, the oppressive and claustrophobic feeling of the church in which he prays translates through the locations of the video.

Billett is returning to the music industry after a ten year break, in which he walked away from connections he had made and the foundations he had built in favour of finding true authenticity. It is this which he now returns with, effortlessly staking his claim in the musical landscape which is rightly his.

You can watch the video below. C/W for homophobia.
