Lady Gaga took to Twitter today to thank her little monsters after she became the first celebrity to amass 10 million followers.

The star overtook previous reigning Twitter champ Britney Spears last August and became the first person to pass nine million followers in March. Spears had held the title for only three months after overtaking actor Ashton Kutcher.

Gaga tweeted earlier today: "10 Million Monsters! I'm speechless, we did it! It's an illness how I love you. Leaving London smiling."

On Facebook , the ‘Bad Romance’ singer has 24 million  fans, but remains slightly behind Eminem and the Texas Hold’Em Poker pages.
