M.I.A has jokingly asked Madonna for a lend of $16 million (£9.63 million) to cover the costs of a fine imposed on her by the NFL.

The Brit performed a short cameo at the Super Bowl in 2012 as Madonna performed her half-time show.

However, she angered TV bosses by showing the middle finger to cameras.

It has been reported that M.I.A has been asked to pay a $16.6 million (£10 million) fine for her gesture - an original payment of $1.5 million (£902,796) plus $15.1m, (£9.01 million) which is what a company would have paid to advertise during her two-minute slot.

The rapper tweeted Madonna on Monday (March 17): "@madonna ummm.....can i borrow 16 million?"

She also uploaded a screenshot of an email which apparently states how she can pay the fine.

M.I.A added: "THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT ME TO SIGN , THAT IVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR 2 YEARS ON TOP OF 16 MILLION."
