5 Seconds Of Summer's Michael Clifford: 'I never expected to tour the USA, it's amazing'

Guitarist Michael Clifford, of 5 Seconds Of Summer fame, has opened up about the success his band has enjoyed recently and admitted that they never expected to be able to tour around the USA performing their music.

He told The Morning Sun that when they started the band in Sydney, Australia, they never imagined it being such an impressive venture: “It’s amazing. When we started, I just assumed the U.S. was out of reach. When you start a band you kind of just do it for fun. You can never expect what’s going to happen, so when (success) does happen, it’s just amazing.”

17-year-old Clifford added that 5 Seconds Of Summer don't mind being labelled a boyband because they are lads playing music in a group, but they want people to know that they're playing their own instruments and writing their own material:

“You can’t escape it, really. We don’t really mind what people think of us as long as they know we write our stuff and play our own instruments.”

Earlier this week, the band's heartthrob Luke Hemmings opened up about his tour bus antics and confessed that he was naked within half an hour of getting on board: "When we first got our tour bus in America, I remember in the first half an hour of meeting the tour bus driver he saw me naked. I thought that was kind of weird."
