Rixton lead the midweek singles chart update with their debut release 'Me And My Broken Heart'

Rising stars Rixton have claimed the midweek No.1 spot on the Official UK Top 40 today (July 16) with their debut offering, 'Me And My Broken Heart'.

The band shot straight in at the top spot this afternoon and are currently 12,000 copies ahead of their closest competitor, which is Nicole Scherzinger at No.2 with 'Your Love'. 'Problem' by Ariana Grande ft. Iggy Azalea is now at No.3, Will.i.Am's former chart-topper 'It's My Birthday' has dropped down to No.4, and Ella Henderson's 'Ghost' has fallen 2 positions to sit at No.5.

Elsewhere on the singles chart, British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has shot up seven places from No.29 to 22 with his track, 'Thinking Out Loud', Ella Eyre's 'If I Go' has made an impressive debut appearance at No.8, and 'Game Of Thrones' star Raleigh Ritchie has re-entered the Top 40 with 'Stronger Than Ever'. The final positions will be confirmed later this week on Sunday, July 20.

Rixton, meanwhile, recently opened up about meeting 5 Seconds Of Summer and confessed that they had a 'sing off' with them: "We've hung out with them all! 5 Seconds of Summer were really fun. They like a little drink. We had a sing off! We were in dressing rooms next to each other, and we were singing their song while they were singing our song back. It was pretty cool."
