Josh Groban achieves his first No. 1 UK album

American vocal star Josh Groban has landed his first ever chart-topping album in the UK.

Groban’s seventh studio album ‘Stages’ – a record comprised of Broadway cover versions’ – has debuted at No. 1 on the UK chart and beats his chart best of peaking at No. 9 with his previous release, 2013’s ‘All That Echoes’.

Paul Simon’s ‘The Ultimate Collection’, last week’s No. 1 album, has now slipped to No. 2.

‘X’ by Ed Sheeran is a non-mover at No. 3, as is Sam Smith’s ‘In The Lonely Hour’ at No. 4. Completing this week’s Top Five is ‘Chaos and the Calm’ from James Bay up one to No. 5.

Aside from Josh Groban’s No. 1 debut, there are a further five album releases that have entered this week’s Top 40; Alabama Shakes at No. 6 with ‘Sound And Color’; Passenger at No. 12 with ‘Whispers II’; Yelawolf’s ‘Love Story’ at No. 25; ‘5am’ by Amber Runs at No. 36; and As It Is with ‘Never Happy Ever After’ at No. 39.
