Azealia Banks on making a name for herself: 'I don't want to be Rihanna's understudy'

Rapper Azealia Banks has revealed that she doesn't want to be a 'second-rate Rihanna' and fought hard for the release of her debut album, 'Broke with Expensive Taste', because she was met with many bumps in the road.

Speaking to ASOS magazine about the record, the hitmaker confessed that it was a long time coming and she wanted to prove that she has what it takes to make a real name for herself:

"Yes! I was so ready to drop this bomb. I was ready for it to drop and f**k everyone's heads and speakers up. I had to [make the album] my way. I didn't want to be singing anyone's leftovers. I didn't want to be Rihanna's understudy."

The '212' star took to her Instagram page this afternoon (May 29) and told her followers that she's currently on set filming parts for a movie: "I'm so excited for my acting debut, can't believe I got the lead role In a feature film. So happy and blessed !!!"
