Songstress and former 'Lizzie McGuire' actress Hilary Duff has revealed that being on the Disney Channel show for so long was an amazing experience and one that really allowed her to grow because it wasn't at all controlling or restrictive. 

During an interview with PrideSource.com, the beauty admitted that starring in the show was incredibly enjoyable because the writers let her be herself: "The writers all knew me so well and were writing things that were happening in my life and things that I would say, and I was dressing exactly like I wanted. It was so me."

She went onto reveal that her decision to end her time on the programme was met with confusion because she had made such a name for herself by playing the role for so long: "Everyone thought I was just absolutely nuts because I was really successful and making a lot of money. And it was scary, because there was no guarantee that my career was still gonna be there."
