Danny Boyle on heartbreak over abandoned David Bowie project

Director Danny Boyle has spoken for the first time about a David Bowie project that he was working on and the events that ended the venture.

The ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ director revealed details about the abandoned Bowie endeavour during an interview with the Radio Times.

Boyle described how he and screenwriter Frank Cottrell Boyce were left “in grief” when they found out that David Bowie had denied them the right to use his music.

Without permission to use the Ziggy Stardust musician’s music, Boyle decided to abort the project – which may have been a musical or a biopic – despite the fact he and his Olympic opening ceremony collaborator had already spent years working on it.

In reference to his new film about the life of Apple’s Steve Jobs, Danny Boyle said he made the movie to “fill the space in my heart left by the abandoned Bowie script”.

David Bowie will release new album titled ‘Blackstar’ in January 2016 and the lead single is set to be unveiled on November 20.
