American Idol 'deserved Emmy nomination' for 'Adam Lambert's daring performances'

This week saw the Emmy Awards unveil its extensive list of nominees, but one popular vocal talent competition was missing from the list.

American Idol didn't receive recognition in the Outstanding Reality Competition race and Yahoo! Music's Lyndsey Parker has penned an opinion piece on why it deserved a nomination.

In the article, she explains that while Idol has been declining in popularity over the years, it enjoyed some spectacular moments since bursting onto television screens and notes that Adam Lambert ("What about Season 8, when overnight sensation Adam Lambert’s daringly theatrical performances thrilled viewers and kept office watercooler chatter going strong week after week?") among others proved that the show built its foundations upon genuine talent.

Parker adds that Idol's stunning finale should have been enough to earn the show a nomination: "Unlike most talent show finales, it wasn’t some filler-padded affair with typical performances by the ubiquitous likes of Pitbull, Meghan Trainor, and Nick Jonas. Instead, more than 60 former contestants performed, and they all instantly reminded America of what a cultural force this show used to be."
