Music industry body calls on YouTube to pay more to artists

YouTube still isn't paying enough royalties to artists, according to Britain's music industry body.

UK Music has spoken out after revealing that the video-sharing platform is the most popular way of consuming music in the country.

Chief executive Jo Dipple commented: "I don't think YouTube pays enough for our brilliant music that they have on their platform."

A report by UK Music said YouTube's per-stream royalties dropped from $0.0020 to $0.0010 in 2015.

The platform responded by saying it has paid £2.3bn to the music industry so far.

It added that it doesn't pay artists per-stream as it makes money from advertising.
