Former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood took home the Artist of the Year prize from the American Country Awards last night. (December 6).

The ceremony took place in Las Vegas’ luxurious MGM Grand hotel and the catergory that Underwood won was entirely voted for by fans.

Talking about her honour at receiving the prize, she said:

“We have had the most amazing year out on the road but we wouldn't be doing anything if there weren't people out there sitting in that audience.”

“So to everybody that came out to see us [or] anybody else out here, you guys are awesome for supporting us like you do. God bless the fans."
