Singer Gerard Way has revealed that he carefully watches his weight these days as shedding more than 40 pounds has given him the confidence to be on stage.

The My Chemical Romance star has struggled with his weight over the past decade and was as heavy 198 pounds at his heaviest. But after a new strict diet, Way is down now to 156 pounds, the lowest of his adult life. Way says that his new body image has had a huge impact on his live shows as he feels more confident about his looks.

He told Rolling Stone magazine: "It was about feeling free and moving and being a little more fearless onstage, that's what this was about, so I just had to get in shape. I grew up with several body issues, and then basically used our wardrobe to shield those body issues for the entirety of the band's career."
