Cher wowed her son, Chaz Bono, after finally calling him by his chosen transgender name just before his appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show yesterday, May 9.

Chaz, originally Chastity, hit the headlines in 2009 when he announced he was going to transition from being a woman to a man and admitted his 'Believe' hitmaker mother has found it difficult to deal with because of her strong public presence. Chaz explained:

"The hard thing for my mom is because she is a public figure and because she has this personality of kind of being so cool about stuff and progressive, people forget that she's a parent."

"She's getting better and better. She sent me a text this morning and it was really nice... She wrote in her text today 'Chaz', so that was really huge. She's moving in the right direction."
