Amy Winehouse's parents speak of their heartbreak

Amy Winehouse's parents, Janis and Mitch Winehouse, have spoken of their heartbreak and devastation at the news of their daughter's death.

The 27-year-old singer was found dead at her home in Camden in north London yesterday. The news had taken both of them by surprise.

Mother Janis said she had seen Amy the day before her death on July 23. "She seemed out if it but her passing so suddenly still hasn't hit me. Amy always said 'I love you mum' when we would say goodbye. They are the words I will always treasure. I'm glad I saw her when I did," she said.

Her father, Mitch, was on a plane to New York to prep for a performance in the city on July 25 when the news of his daughter's death arose. He took the first plane back to London yesterday, cancelling his New York engagements.

He said: "This isn't real, I'm completely devastated. I'm getting the next plane back. I'm coming home. I have to be with Amy.

"I can't crack up for her sake. My family need me. I'm devastated, it's such a shock."
