The Beach Boys have announced plans to celebrate their 50th anniversary.

The legendary group will reunite with their founding members and play a slew of shows across the world in 2012.

They will also record a new album and release a new greatest hits compilation next year.

Beach Boys mainman Brian Wilson said in a statement on his website: "This anniversary is special to me because I miss the boys and it will be a thrill for me to make a new record and be on stage with them again."
