The Beatles named top selling band in history of UK singles chart

The Beatles have topped a list of the top selling bands in the history of the UK singles chart.

The Official Charts Company released the list today (June 4) as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, charting the top selling acts of the last 60 years.

The list reveals that the Beatles have sold 21.9m singles in the UK, closely followed by Elvis, who has sold 21.6m units since the UK singles chart began in 1952.

In third place on the list is Cliff Richard, with Madonna landing at No.4.

The most contemporary act on the list is Rihanna, who charts at No.10 with a total of 10.4m singles sold in the UK.

Bringing up the rear in twelfth place meanwhile is Kylie Minogue, with 10.1m songs sold.
