Frank Ocean spoke about his sexuality for his "own sanity"

'Novacane' star Frank Ocean has opened up about his decision to post a message about his sexuality.

Earlier this month, he sent out a blog post that explained his first love was a man and this bold admission rocked the music world.

In this weekend's Guardian newspaper Ocean admits his revelation was purely "about my own sanity and my ability to feel like I'm living a life where…I'm happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin' boulder on my chest."

He also spoke about the importance of being honest and added that it's inspiring to have people in the spotlight be open about things that cause tension or controversy:

"[I wish] there was somebody I looked up to who would have said something like that, who would have been transparent in that way."

"People are just afraid of things too much…Sure, evil exists, extremism exists. Somebody could commit a hate crime and hurt me. But they could do the same just because I'm black. They could do the same just because I'm American."
