Back in August, Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and songstress Avril Lavigne announced their engagement and the news took both the press and public by surprise.

In an interview with People magazine, Kroeger opened up about the world's reaction and admitted that he isn't bothered by what other people think about his relationship and impending marriage to the 'What The Hell' pop-rocker:

"I try not to take too much interest in the world's opinion of our relationship. I just know the both of us are very happy."

The pair, who are both Canadian, also revealed their excitement at the fact that their anniversary will be on a day that honours their country: "We think it's very cool that our anniversary will always be on Canada Day. We can't wait to start our life together."

Kroeger recently confessed that his mother hadn't even met Lavigne when he told her that a wedding was on the cards: "You never know what your parents are going to say when you tell them you're getting married - especially when it's with someone they haven't met yet!"

"My mom is a huge fan of Avril's, so putting her on the speaker phone and telling her the news was hilarious and equally embarrassing."
