Chris Brown domestic violence sticker stunt may have helped promote album, says retailer

A campaign which saw copies of Chris Brown's latest album defaced with anti-domestic violence stickers may have actually helped promote the record.

As previously reported, a HMV store in Cambridge was victim to a sticker stunt where copies of his album 'Fortune' were plastered with labels telling people not to buy it because of his past.

Chris Brown was sentenced in 2009 for beating then girlfriend Rihanna.

A spokesman for HMV has said that whilst whoever responsible for the campaign may have indeed got their point across, they also probably helped promote the album too. They said:

"We were as surprised as anyone when the stickers appeared in one of our stores outside of London at the back end of last week. Obviously someone must have snuck in to put them on a handful of CDs, and although they weren't up very long before staff removed them, the person responsible managed to take a snap and send it out to media."

HMV continued: "I guess they got their point across pretty effectively – with widespread coverage around the world, though, by the same token, quite a few more people now know there's a new Chris Brown album out."
