Cher found Chaz Bono's sex change "hard"

The son of pop icon Cher, Chaz Bono, has admitted that while his mother has been very supportive of his decision to undergo a sex change, she has certainly found it "difficult" to deal with.

In a new interview, Chaz Bono explained that deciding to make the transition was a tough one because he was born a girl named Chastity Bono, but he knew it was the right thing to do and is glad his superstar mother understands his mindset:

"It's been hard for mom, but her loss isn't based on who I was before I transitioned, as I was in no way, shape or form typically female. For her, it's more the loss of a fantasy that probably began even before I was (born) ... of her thinking about the kind of daughter she thought she'd have."

Chaz Bono added that while Cher makes a conscious effort to make him feel supported and strong, he gets the impression that she's still a little unsure of the situation and his desire to change sex:

"Mom loves girlie stuff, so it was difficult because I was never that person. I could never give her that experience. I sense she's still not 100 per cent comfortable with what I've done. She's also bad with pronouns and remembering to call me Chaz."
