Music fans on Twitter have questioned Jermaine Jackson's bid to change his last name to 'Jacksun'.

Jackson filed a request on Tuesday (November 6) to change his surname, citing "artistic reasons".

The brother of pop icon Michael Jackson will find out on January 22 if he will be able to alter his famous name.

Speaking on behalf of Jackson, Steve Dennis said: "Phonetically, it changes nothing. It is something he has chosen to do. It's fair to say that you cannot blame this one on the boogie, you've got to blame it on the sunshine."

Jermaine Jackson was recently involved in a family fall-out after the supposed disappearance of family matriarch Katherine earlier this year.

Some people have taken to Twitter meanwhile to express their dismay at his name change bid, with one user tweeting: "Can you imagine Elvis Preslie Michael Angelu Barak Obamu sir Elton johu?"

Another user said: "What's the purpose of the name?! i'm sorry but this just seems like a cry for attention."
