Paul McCartney delivers 'no turkey' Christmas message

Paul McCartney is urging the public to swear off turkey this Christmas.

The singer stars in a new advertising campaign for animal rights charity, PETA, wearing an ‘eat no turkey’ t-shirt, alongside the slogan ‘say no thanks to turkey. Go vegetarian’.

The group has released a statement promoting the campaign on its website along with a few vegetarian recipes for a Christmas feast:

“Like chickens, the 300 million turkeys raised and killed for their flesh every year in the United States have no federal legal protection. More than 45 million turkeys are killed each year at Thanksgiving alone, and more than 22 million die at Christmas.”

It’s not the first time the former Beatle has worked with PETA to promote animal rights. The 70-year-old recording artist provided the voiceover for the group’s video ‘Glass Walls’. In the clip the musician stresses: “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.”

The news follows the announcement that the musician will perform at the 12-12-12 concert in New York's Madison Square Garden next month to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
