Prince Philip weighs in on One Direction and Girls Aloud's Variety performances

The Royal Variety show took place in London last night (November 19) and the star-studded event saw live performances from the likes of the newly reformed Girls Aloud and heartthrobs One Direction.

The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, were in the audience and when asked if he enjoyed both acts' sets, the Duke of Edinburgh joked: "I never heard a thing, we're so stone deaf!"

Prince Philip, who is known for being outspoken and rather entertaining in his quips, was also caught holding his hands over his ears during Alicia Keys' performance.

'Little Things' hitmaker Harry Styles later expressed his excitement at having taking part in the iconic Royal Variety Show and tweeted: "Today, I met The Queen. Amazing night.. Can't believe it. Night!! .xx."
