It was announced earlier today that Prince William and Kate Middleton are expecting their first baby and the stars of music took to Twitter to congratulate the happy couple.

Cheeky singer Olly Murs sent his well-wishes to the pair, writing on the social networking site: "Cool #royalbaby that's amazing news!! Dam it how comes they never mentioned it on the XTRA Factor last week haha"

Songstress Cheryl Cole, who previously confessed to having a crush on Wills and his brother Harry, added: "I'm sooooooo excited that we're having a royal baby !!!! Congratulations to Kate and Wills !!!!!!"

Newly pregnant member of The Saturdays, Rochelle Wiseman, also sent her congratulations and tweeted: "Ahhhh yayyy Kate Middleton is pregnant ♥congrats xx"

Meanwhile, the royal family issued a statement on the heartwarming news and explained that Middleton has been admitted to hospital after suffering severe morning sickness: "The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to King Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum."

"As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."
