Singer Janet Jackson has made a startling confession about her relationship status.

Speaking exclusively to ET News, the hitmaker explained that she got married last year to Wissam Al Mana and together they decided not to inform the press about it.

The couple also released a joint statement that confirmed the rumours that suggested she was planning an extravagant wedding were "simply not true" and they have already tied the knot:

"The rumours regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony."

"Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favourite children’s charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy. With love, Wissam and Janet."
