International songstress Demi Lovato has recalled a particularly "gross" encounter with an overzealous fan.

The 'Heart Attack' singer has a famously close relationship with her followers - regularly tweeting them support and stopping to sign autographs.

Although Lovato is happy to interact with her fans, she has recalled one time she didn't really know how to handle a hysterical female.

She told British magazine Heat: "This girl was at a signing [in London] and she was crying so much that her nose literally dripped with snot down to her chin, and she wiped it with her hand and then went to shake mine.

She added: ''I know she probably wasn't thinking straight because she was obviously very emotional, but it was just really gross.''

Lovato recently congratulated friend and fellow singer Selena Gomez and her family on the arrival of her new baby sister.

She wrote on Twitter earlier this week: "RT #CONGRATSSELENAMANDYANDBRIAN !!!!!! (sic)," after Gomez's mom Mandy gave birth to Gracie Elliot Teefey on Wednesday (June 12).
