Daft Punk released 'Get Lucky' for fun

Daft Punk released 'Get Lucky' to cheer up people from their "s****y state of reality".

The French duo - comprising Thomas Bangalter, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo - teamed up with Pharrell Williams for the chart-topping track.

After its release earlier this year it immediately hit No.1 around the world, becoming a 2013 anthem in the process, and Daft Punk have revealed why they made it in the first place.

Homem-Christo explained to Q magazine: “It’s like people were in need of something to go towards. In a s****y state of reality, people want to laugh and party.

“Everybody is taking part in this phenomenon. But it’s not the music, it’s the people. It’s like we light up a match and people, how you say, whuh-whuh-whuh! Fan the flames. Take 'Get Lucky' to the beach and have fun. That’s it.”

Williams revealed recently that Daft Punk are “super thankful” for the positive response.

Speaking to MTV News he said: ''I mean, I thought it would do good, I didn't know it would be this; I didn't know it would be breaking records across the board, I had no idea.

He added: ''I just thought it would do well, because it felt great and it felt different, and you guys know I live for those types of things, to do things that are different. So the fact that it's been so explosive, and that the people chose to make it the phenomenon it is; the only thing we can say is thank y'all. I was with the robots yesterday, and, of course, they're super thankful too.''
