The Backstreet Boys have commented on the similarities between themselves and One Direction.

The veteran US group are stalwarts of the boyband scene but the British lads are causing a similar impact as they become international stars.

Speaking to Now, AJ McLean said that he is often reminded of the Backstreet Boys when he sees One Direction, commenting:

"It's like looking into a mirror. There are a lot of similarities. 1D work with similar producers and their songs have quite similar production and titles. But there are some obvious differences, such as the fact they don't dance."

Backstreet Boys; Nick Carter meanwhile gave his thoughts on One Direction's Harry Styles, whose love life often makes the news. He said:

"We've all had our share of that. But I'll tell you this: you get as much attention as you want. At the end of the day we could all say: 'We don't want to be with 
a normal girl. We want to have some more attention by going out there'. But that doesn't work for us. I've been there and it was a lot of pressure. It takes away from what you have really set out to do. That hoopla takes away from the music - I learnt that the hard way.
