Daft Punk drop Colbert Report appearance due to 'secret MTV VMAs slot'

Daft Punk reportedly cancelled their appearance on The Colbert Report due to conflicts over an apparent secret slot at the MTV VMAs.

The French electronic duo were scheduled to make a rare outing on the US TV show on Tuesday (August 6) but 'Get Lucky' stars are said to have pulled out at the last minute.

Host Stephen Colbert is quoted as saying that they cancelled due to contract obligations surrounding their alleged unannounced slot at the MTV VMAs, which are due to take place on August 25. He said:

"Here's the story: it's a true story. We booked click and clack over here about a month ago. This network is owned by Viacom, which is also the owner of MTV…Apparently, Daft Punk are going to make a surprise appearance on the MTV Video Music Awards."

He added: "Don't tell anyone, because fun fact: No-one told me until two hours ago."
