Colourful pop star Mika has revealed that his sister's brush with death inspired him lyrically and he decided to explore the themes of fate and luck on his new record, 'The Origin Of Love'.

Speaking to Britain's Daily Star newspaper, he explained that after his sister Paloma survived a 50ft (15 metres) fall from a window at her home in West London, which resulted in her being impaled on a metal rail, he began thinking a lot about how life can be taken away at any moment and decided to incorporate this mindset into the songs on his new album:

"My sister should have died but she's a miracle of the NHS. I really believe in fate now. I think you have to fight, but also to surrender your fears into the hands of fate."

"You can lose everything in five seconds. It was a massive jolt and made me realise: 'You'd f**king better make the most of what's in front of you.' As soon as Paloma was stable, I ran away to make my record."

Speaking about Paloma's terrifying accident, Mika added: "Paloma was having a cheeky cigarette, lost her balance and wasn't strong enough to save herself. Her neighbour held on to the railings for an hour, to ensure they didn't fall into the basement. It was a total disaster, yet a weirdly positive event too."
