Jason Derülo: "If a woman has her shirt off it's very different"

Jason Derülo insists you can't compare his sexy music videos to Miley Cyrus' risqué promos as a woman with her shirt off is "very different".

The singer has defended his half-naked video for 'Talk Dirty',  claiming a male having his shirt off is "not considered naked".

When asked if he thinks it's unfair the amount of criticism Cyrus is receiving for her suggestive antics compared to male artists like himself, he told the Huffington Post:

"If a woman has her shirt off it's very different. I definitely think there is a difference because men play basketball with their shirts off. Men play football with their shirts off.

He added: "Men run around the streets like that and it's not considered naked really. Not that I think that there is anything wrong with her being naked in the video. But I do think it's a lot different because men and women are kind of seen very differently with their shirts off."

Cyrus came under fire after her sultry performance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards.

She performed hit song 'We Can't Stop' before suggestively dancing alongside Robin Thicke on the star's storming hit 'Blurred Lines'.

Her latest video features her swinging naked on a demolition ball.

Derülo thinks her boldness should be applauded, explaining: "I think she's doing iconic things. After all that happened [at the VMAs] to make that bold choice again. I think she's doing some things that are actually herself, if it wasn't her then she would have stopped. It's making everybody talk, I think that's iconic.

"When Madonna had the cone boobs everybody was like 'what the hell is that', now it's like iconic."
