Robbie Williams: "I have a gigantic ego"

Robbie Williams has admitted that he possesses a massive ego - despite being cast as a "boy next door" figure.

The singer has gone solo once again after reuniting with Take That in 2010 and he recently spoke to James Corden for a TV special called When Robbie Met James.

In the revealing interview, Williams spoke about how he believes the public perceives him, admitting that he has an oversized ego. When asked about the prospects of being a 'national treasure', the singer said:

"I think that, to a lot of people they don't like my brand of whatever I do. And I think that people, the ones that like me at least see me as their brother, or their older uncle, or their friend or their next door neighbour. I am the quintessential boy next door, I feel that way."

He continued: "I have a gigantic ego and need to be at the top of the pile and be doing amazingly well; also at the same time I'm just pleased to be anywhere. Do I think I'm a national treasure? I don't see why not? I don't see why I shouldn't be. I'm a good lad really."

Commenting on his reunion with Take That, the 'Take The Crown' star said that the reformation came at a time when he wanted to lay low in life. He said:

"The TT stuff was all happening whilst I was all going, 'I want nothing to do with anything. I want to go and get on a couch and I want to have honey Dijon crisps and I want to watch reality TV and do nothing forever'."
